The group meets on Monday’s at a member’s home – please contact the church office for details.
This group is taking a break until September. Then they will begin reading Resurrecting Jesus: Embodying the Spirit of a Revolutionary Mystic by Adyashanti. Homework for the group will consist of reading 20 to 25 pages per week. Here is what Amazon says: “Jesus crossed all of the boundaries that separated the people of his time because he viewed the world from the perspective of what unites us, not what divides us. In Resurrecting Jesus, Adya embarks on a fascinating reconsideration of the man known as Jesus, examining his life from birth to Resurrection to reveal a timeless model of awakening and enlightened engagement with the world. Through close consideration of the archetypal figures and events of the Gospels, Adya issues a call to ‘live the Christ’ in a way that is unique to each of us.”
This book discussion class has recently studied Immortal Diamond: The Search for Our True Self by Richard Rohr, Falling Upward: A Spirituality for the two Halves of Life by Ruchard Rohr, The Gospel of Thomas: the Gnostic Wisdom of Jesus by Jean-Yves Leloup, and The Wisdom Jesus: Transforming Heart and Mind–A New Perspective on Christ and His Message by Cynthia Bourgeault.
Those attending this study will read the next section of the book at home and come prepared to discuss it. The class will continue meeting until the book is finished. This is a book study that requires a comfort level with ambiguity and with ideas that challenge some of our traditional beliefs. If you find that some of the ideas that make sense to you are not in the mainstream of what you have heard in church and you enjoy an environment that is accepting of those “out of the box” ideas, then this may be the class for you. Otherwise, try one of our other more traditional classes!
