Weekly Lectionary Discussion Group meets most Wednesdays at 1 p.m.
Come and study and discuss with Pastor Joan the passage(s) that she will be preaching from on the upcoming Sunday, and reflect back on the previous sermon.
For much of the year, the scripture that we use on Sunday mornings comes from the Revised Common Lectionary. At other times, the scripture is chosen to illuminate a particular topic. The passages that we will be studying are published in our monthly newsletter, weekly bulletins, and sermon announcements.
- A lectionary is a sequence or list of lections (passages of scripture) to be read in church services during the year. The Revised Common Lectionary (RCL) is a three-year cycle of suggested scripture readings that follows the Christian year. Each Sunday, four passages of scripture are recommended, usually two from the Old Testament and two from the New Testament. Thus, over a three-year period the Bible is covered in a systematic and balanced way.
