Encouragement for One Another

8/14/2016 – 8/28/2016

Based on Hebrews 11-13, we will look for the ways in which our faith ancestors can bring us encouragement, and how in turn we can be encouragers for one another.

August 14 – Walking by Faith – Hebrews 11:1-3, 8-16
August 21 – Running the Race – Hebrews 11:29-12:2
August 28 – Entertaining Angels – Hebrews 13:1-8, 15-16

Entertaining Angels

As we reach out to others, we become Christ-like. But then those we reach out to end up ministering to us and loving on us. So the stranger, the one we often fear, becomes Christ to us. We are saved and experience faith through the other, the alien, the stranger. So if we want to find Christ and experience the good news, then a good place to start is by offering hospitality. (Hebrews 13:1-8, 15-16)

running the race

Running the Race

With the Olympics in full-swing and the running events this week, there have been many images that have popped into my head as I prepared this sermon. One of the questions I have been pondering is which race are we running with perseverance? Are we running to the right finish line? The one where Jesus is standing? (Hebrews 11:29-12:2)

walking by faith

Walking by Faith

As we walk by faith trusting in what God has done before, we move into the future and experience God with us, so that we have the courage to keep going forward where we will meet God again. In other words, we “learn by doing.” Our experience of faith affects the future. By walking in faith, we become people of faith. (Hebrews 11:1-3, 8-16)
