30-Year History Video


1987 United Methodist Fellowship Group formed: first meeting at Lake of the Pines Yacht Club, later at Rev. Sarge Wright & wife Lucille’s home.

1988 Group moved to Bear River High School to gather.

1989 A new location: Magnolia school. AND new pastor: In October, Rev. Dick Huser was appointed as Pastor, along with his wife Arlene.

1990 In the fall of 1990, a facility was secured just west of Hwy. 49 on Streeter Road.

1992 On March 11, a new charter was formed and Sierra Pines United Methodist Church was formally dedicated at a ceremony held at Pioneer United Methodist in Auburn.

1994 In January, a Cub Scout Troop was sponsored.

1995 November 18: Ground-breaking ceremonies.

1996 In May, a Junior Girl Scout Troop was sponsored, AND in November, the building at 22559 W. Hacienda was consecrated, and Sierra Pines United Methodist Church had a new home.

1997 In September, the first Pasta Frenzy fundraiser was held.

1998 On March 11, we celebrated the 6th anniversary of our Charter.

1999 Rev. Dick Huser retired at the end of the year. Rev. Tom Clark, was Interim pastor for 6 months.

2000 In July, Rev. Don Lee was welcomed as Pastor, along with his wife Tana.

2001 On March 4 a second worship service was added.

2002 On March 12 the first classroom building consecrated.

2003 January 31 was the beginning of the annual fundraiser “Mystery Dinner Theater.” 

2005 On June 12 the second classroom and playground was consecrated. And in August support for Hospitality House was started. Sponsorship of Boy Scout Troop #783 began.

2007 On November 4th, Sierra Pines celebrated 20 years of ministry, including guests Rev. Sarge Wright and Rev. Dick Huser.

2009 On January 9th, the patio was finished and used for fellowship on a warm day.

2011 On July 3, Rev. Alison Berry was welcomed as the new Pastor.

2013 Began Sponsorship of Girl Scout Troops #394 and #1016.

2014 On March 30 it was announced that Sierra Pines became a Reconciling Church.

2015 In July, Rev. Joan Pell was welcomed as pastor along with her husband Adrian.

2016 In the Spring, we began a partnership with Nevada County Diaper Project to hand out free diapers. Venture Crew #783 was launched in June. The Sanctuary was re-roofed in late Summer and the two worship services were combined to one service.  Video: A Year in the Life of Sierra Pines UMC 2015-16.

2017 In April, we installed flat screens in the sanctuary for computer projection. On October 29, we celebrated 30 years of ministry and 25 years since the Charter. Bishop Minerva Carcaño was the guest preacher. Video: 30-year Anniversary. And Video: Sierra Pines UMC Missions locally, nationally and around the world, 2017.

2018 In May, we took a mission trip to UMCOR West in Salt Lake City. In June at a special church conference, we voted to pay off the remaining mortgage debt from Endowment Fund interest. We are now debt free! Videos: Mission Trip 2018. And Video: Year in Review, 2018.

2019 In January, we received a large Legacy Gift. The 5th of February saw the launch of BSA Troop 523 for Girls. In July, Rev. Suzanne Calhoun was welcomed as pastor along with her husband Cliff and two children. Video: Celebrating Pastor Joan’s Ministry at SPUMC 2015-2019.
