We have lots going on this advent! Full details are in the December issue of the Prism.
Our Advent/Christmas sermon series is Anticipation runs from November 25 to December 30. In this series we will explore the events leading to the birth of Christ, as told by the gospel writer Luke. We will journey with Elizabeth, Zechariah, Mary and Joseph in their time of anticipation and waiting; and as we do so, we will encounter angels and hear the words of poetic songs that burst forth. As we anticipate God made flesh in Jesus, our waiting is mingled with the gift of time and space to dream new dreams, and the light of hope, love, joy and peace.
We have a Daily Advent Devotional book called I Am Mary. It is now available at church while stocks last. Suggested book donation: $4. I am Mary is written by Presbyterian (USA) minister and best-selling author Carol Howard Merritt. In this Advent journey we will follow the young Mary, who became the holy and revered Mother of God. In these reflections, Merritt has put herself in Mary’s shoes and creatively imagined Mary telling us what it is like for her as she experiences surprise, confusion, fear, anticipation, and blessing. From the first Sunday of Advent (December 2) through to Christmas Day, each daily devotion includes a scripture verse, a reflection, and a prayer.
Hanging of the Greens is on Sunday November 25 at 11 a.m. immediately following the worship service.
The service on Sunday December 16 will be immediately followed by Christmas Morsels and the opportunity to stock up on those final Christmas gifts. There will be Christmas cookies, cakes, candy and other goodies all carefully wrapped and looking gorgeous.
Our Christmas Eve Candlelight Service is at 6 p.m. Join us as we celebrate the birth of Jesus. As Christ’s birth touches the earth, it also touches us; like the first shepherds, we too are called to listen to the angel’s words and Rise Up & Follow.
We have adopted two families in need through Women of Worth for Christmas. Please choose a tag off the Christmas Tree, purchase the requested gift, and return it wrapped under the tree by December 9.
And a fun event. We will be taking a group to hear Handel’s Messiah at 3 p.m. on Sunday December 17 at Sierra Presbyterian Church in Grass Valley. Several of our own church members will be singing. Purchase tickets for $12 online or from SPD Markets or Sierra Presbyterian church office. Please note, this event is usually a sell-out. It is open seating, so please let us know that you have a ticket, so we can save you a seat with our group.
