Dear Friends in Christ,
I hope that you have had a blessed Christmas season and that 2019 will be a year filled with hope, love, joy and peace for you and your loved ones. Adrian and I would like to thank you for the many cards and gifts that we received.
As you count your blessings and reflect back on 2018, check out the year-in-review video that we made as we celebrated becoming mortgage-free. So many memories! What was your favorite event with our church family in 2018? My favorite was the Mission Trip to the UMCOR Depot in Salt Lake City; you can find videos on our website of that event too.
The new calendar year is a time to begin afresh. What New Year resolutions have you made? Over the past year, the Thursday Bible Study group has enjoyed using the resources at The Bible Project. I have found The Bible Project videos extremely helpful as they seek to tell the stories of the bible in fresh ways and bring a wealth of knowledge and help in understanding and interpreting the scriptures. These resources include a Read the Bible in One Year plan with a short video to watch nearly every day that corresponds with the reading (scroll to the bottom of the page to signup or install the app). Whether you make a resolution to read the whole Bible in a year, or just want to understand a single book, I encourage you to explore these great resources.
As we begin the New Year, let us share together this prayer written by Maren C Tirabassi and published in the United Methodist Book of Worship:
Creative God, you make all things new in heaven and on earth,
We come to you in a new year with new desires and old fears,
new decisions and old controversies,
new dreams and old weaknesses.
because you are a God of hope,
we know that you create all the possibilities of the future.
Because you are a God of love,
we know that you accept all the mistakes of the past.
Because you are the God of our faith,
we enter your gates with thanksgiving and praise,
we come into your presence with gladness and a joyful noise,
and we serve and bless you. Amen.
Happy New Year!
